Tom Hale, CEO of Oura, believes that despite ongoing rumors about an "Apple Ring," Apple is more likely to focus on enhancing the Apple Watch rather than entering the smart ring market.

Apple and the Smart Ring Market: Possible Venture?

Tom Hale, CEO of Oura, a leader in smart rings, has expressed skepticism about Apple’s interest in entering this niche market. He believes that “it’s hard to excel in this product category” and suggests that Apple might focus more on enhancing its Apple Watch than on developing a smart ring.

Challenges for Apple

By venturing into smart rings, Apple risks cannibalizing its Apple Watch sales, which continues to see significant enhancements, especially in health and sleep tracking. With the introduction of Vitals in watchOS 11, users can now monitor multiple health metrics directly from their wrist, a feature similar to Oura’s Readiness score.

Oura CEO’s Perspective

Tom Hale has strong reasons to believe that Apple will likely prioritize upgrading its existing products over entering a new market segment. Supporting this view, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg also mentioned in his Power On newsletter last month that “Apple is not actively developing a ring and has no plans to launch one”.

Persistent Rumors

Despite these viewpoints, rumors about Apple developing a smart ring continue to circulate. Surveys were reportedly sent to employees last September, hinting at the possibility of such a product. Will we see an Apple Ring soon? Only Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, knows for sure. However, we remain vigilant for any new updates on this topic.
