Recent leaks suggest Apple is developing a smart home hub based on the iPad, expected by early 2025. However, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg indicates a possible delay due to software development issues.

Software Feature Dependent Launch

In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman hints at a March unveiling, but the hub’s market release could be postponed. The delay stems from its operating system being closely tied to a feature named App intents, anticipated in iOS 18.4 or iOS 19. Without this software, the hub’s availability might be pushed to summer or even fall, depending on Apple’s software rollout schedule this year.

Features of the New Hub

Gurman also reports that the hub will feature a 7-inch screen, slightly larger than an iPhone 16 Pro Max. Designed for household management, running apps, and video calling, the hub’s functionalities align with those of top smart displays in the market. It can be mounted on a wall or placed on a countertop, though the necessity for a specific stand remains unclear.

Finally, Gurman notes that this hub will precede two significant developments at Apple. The first is a more conversational version of Siri, set to rival ChatGPT by spring 2026. The second is the launch of an expanded range of smart home accessories, moving beyond the existing HomePod speakers. Speculations are already circulating about potential new devices, including an indoor security camera and a video doorbell featuring Face ID for homeowner recognition.
