A devastating incident unfolded off the coast of Palermo, Sicily, from Sunday night into Monday, when the pleasure yacht Bayesian sank amid a fierce storm, with 22 people on board.

According to the Italian Coast Guard, among the missing are four British nationals, two Americans, and one Canadian. Eight survivors have been transported to local hospitals.

The wreckage of the vessel was located at a depth of 50 meters. A comprehensive search operation involving a helicopter, coast guard ships, and divers is underway to locate the missing individuals.

The Judicial Authority of Termini Imerese has initiated an investigation to uncover the details of this tragic event.

The Bayesian, constructed in Tuscany in 2008 and refurbished in 2020, features the world’s tallest aluminum main mast, standing at 75 meters, and sails that cover an area of 3000 m². This incident starkly reminds us of the vast, unpredictable power of the seas.
